Social Media Hotter than ever

May 24th, 2010

Get ‘em while they’re hot

The Social Network is always one of the best advertising options, however now is the best time to use them at your advantage.

Every time when there is a big fuss about anything huge going on online, whether there is a Hollywood celebrity troubles or currently the Facebook Privacy Policy issues, people tend to interact more and spend more time on their favorite social media site around these “events”.

Good suggestion for better Twitter usage to get more hits on your bit.ly, goo.gl, is.gd or any other URL Shortener is to use hash in your tweets, i.e. #facebook, #yahoo, #google etc.

Using social sites even more when there is something going on with any of the big names out there you as Business or personal user you just tripled your changes of gaining more volume to whatever is that you are offering or promoting.

This does not mean that users should SPAM the social networking sites, it means that you must use the correct tools and steer “few” people towards your way.

Addicted to Social Media

April 28th, 2010

Students of Maryland University agreed to cut on social networking for 24 hours, not even use of computers or mobile phones

Recent study at the University of Maryland asked their students to go without use of websites such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz etc, in other words no connection with social media at all. However at the same time any use of internet or even computers including cellphones were forbidden as well.

From 200 participants from this study, students wrote 110,000 words on how they experienced 24 hour period without “connection” to the world. Basically all the participants simply hated to be “unplugged” from their friends, relatives and anyone else they interact with.

We were surprised by how many students admitted that they were ‘incredibly addicted’ to media,” noted the project director Susan D. Moeller, a journalism professor at the University of Maryland and the director of the International Center for Media and the Public Agenda which conducted the study. “But we noticed that what they wrote at length about was how they hated losing their personal connections. Going without media meant, in their world, going without their friends and family.

What this study showed is that student can be without television and without newspapers, however that is not the case with their personal gadgets such as notebooks or cellphones.

Google Buzz Unblocked

February 12th, 2010

You can’t block me now

Government agencies, businesses, schools many of them already migrated their e-mail services to Google’s Gmail. They all want more space, more reliability and better control over their e-mail hosting server. This is nothing new. According to Google over 6 million students already use Google Apps.

54% of U.S. companies block social media sites according to Robert Half Technology Survey. It’s not the first and the last time when Employers are using firewalls to block their workers from social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook or MySpace, well it’s time to change all that. Google Buzz is integrated into Gmail leaving Employers without option to block the access.

Will this be a sign or a message that we don’t need to be blocked? How about employers, will they realize the future and potential of social media sites? Well I really hope so, however it’s very early to say for sure.
